let's see how to make tasty chennai style meen kulambu (fish curry )
How to make Fish Curry
- Fish 1/2kg (preferably catla, seer, silver batfish)
- Tamarind (small lemon size)
- Red chilli powder
- Turmeric powder
- Salt
- Coriander powder
- 2 Onion
- 2Tomato
- curry leaves
- Coriander leaves (optional)
- Mustard seeds
- Fenugreek seeds
- Garlic 1 clove (peeled)
- peppercorns
- oil for cooking
Method of preparation
- Clean the fish properly and marinate it using 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp red chilli powder,1/2 tsp coriander powder,1/4 tsp white vinegar or you can use lime juice and keep it aside for 15 min
- In a blender add roughly chopped onions, tomato, few curry leaves and coriander leaves,1/2 tsp peppercorns and grind it thoroughly
- Now take a pan add 3 tsp oil, then 1/4 tsp mustard seeds,1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds, some chopped curry leaves, finely chopped onions and tomatoes let it cook for 5 mins
- Now add the ground paste in it and leave it to cook for 10 more mins
- Meanwhile, soak tamarind into 1/2 cup of water for 2 mins
- Now strain the tamarind water and add 1 1/2 tsp red chilli powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, salt as need and keep it aside
- Add this tamarind mixture to pan .cover and cook for 10 mins
- Add the fish pieces and make it simmer for 2 more mins
Tasty chennai style meen kuzhambu ( fish curry ) ready. you can have this with steamed white rice with some yummy fish fries
